New Church: mausoleum of Wikkiam of Orange (the Silent).

The New Church is the most visited place in historic Delft. The reason for that is, that the Dutch royal family still bury their death in the vault. The tradition started with William of Orange (the Silent). A guided tour will take 1 hour. The subjects that will be addressed are:

History of the city;

History of the church;

The vault of the Royal House;

Royal Funerals;

The mausoleum of William of Orange (the Silent);

The stained glass windows;

Hugo Grotius.

This guided tour can be combined perfectly with a city walk and a guided tour through the Old Church, the Prinsenhof, Het Steen and the Army Museum.

Prinsenhof

The Prinsenhof was founded as the Saint Agatha convent around 1400, but in 1572 it became the place where William of Orange (the Silent) started to live with his family. It was renamed then to Prinsenhof (Court of the Prince). There are two possible guided tours:

Short tour during 15 minutes about the William of Orange collection and the murder;

Full tour during 1 hour through the whole art collection.

The short tour is only possible in combination with an other tour like a city walk or guided tour through New and/or Old Church, Army museum and Het Steen.

 

The full tour stands on its own, but can also be combined with a city walk and other guided tours.

Army Museum

The Army Museum is located in the historic buildings of the Armamentarium of which the first building was founded in 1602. Not only is it  about arms, but also about paintings and objects of historic importance. You can find here the history of the Netherlands and for that reason a lot of schools visit the museum. Het Steen: medieval prison.

Het Steen

Het Steen was one of the towers of the Court of the Count of Holland originating from the 13th century. It is the only tower that is left from that court and it was in use as a medieval prison. There are also a number of instruments of torture present. A guided tour will take a quarter of an hour, but in combination with a tour through the city hall it will take half an hour. We will do this tour only in combination with a city walk and/or a guided tour. It combines well with a short guided tour through the Prinsenhof, New Church and Army Museum.
